Mermaid Party: Tesla’s 3rd Birthday Celebration
Tesla is still young enough that I can choose the theme of her birthday party (but I think this was the last time). I wanted to do something at our home, with her sweet friends from daycare. I also wanted to keep the party simple (as I am prone to go a little overboard on Pinterest and I have to reign myself in), so I focused on just a few fun decorations, some snacks, and a couple of activities.
Decorations
- I found some great Mermaid/Under the Sea decorations at Michael’s that were just made for this party! I stuck some of the diecut mermaids, shells, and fish onto the glass walls of our sun room. I also cut out some simple fish from some scrapbook paper from the same line and stuck those on our sun room walls. I used the scrapbook paper to make a banner with Tesla’s name for above the cake table.
- Green crepe paper was “seaweed” and blue crepe paper was “water” on the walls.
- Clear balloons strung in clusters were “bubbles” hanging from the ceiling.
- Jellyfish were made from clear shower caps with iridescent curling ribbon taped along the opening.
- I spread out all the beach towels we own (plus some from my friends) on the floor of the sun room so that the kids could just eat on the floor, picnic style.
- Blue plastic covers on all the tables.
- Shark-fin spoons to use to eat the cups of blue jello and cool whip.
- Blue sea glass scattered on the food tables.
- Water bottles with adorable whale duct tape wrapped around the label
- Whale plates from Target
- Beach balls from Oriental Trading. I blew them all up and had them scattered around the rooms. There was a beach ball for each guest, so most of them went home with them!
Food
- Goldfish crackers of course!
- PB&J sandwiches cut into star shapes (using a star cookie cutter)
- Cheddar cheese cut into stars
- White cheese cut into triangles (shark teeth!)
- Blue jello cups with Cool Whip
- Pirate’s Booty
- Fruit and veggies
- Birthday cake!
Activities
- Finding Nemo (no 3 year old in the room was immune to the power!)
- Octopus ring toss
This was a really fun party and I’m so happy with how everything turned out! If you want to see the ideas I used and some of the tutorials that helped me, check out my Mermaid Party board on Pinterest. I didn’t use all of the ideas, but there are some good ones!
Here are some fun pictures! Of the fun! Fun!
